0:44 And that's all they care about. And you've heard me talk about this before.

0:57 how it will improve their life. People sell ice cream by opening the door and saying, hey, I have
1:02 ice cream for sale. It's $5. Now, if there are two people trying to sell ice cream, the one that has
1:08 maybe a poster board that shows a bunch of their reviews, a bunch of people in front of there,
1:14 maybe a long line of people to buy the ice cream and the other one's abandoned. We've all seen that
1:19 type of that type of activity where you know one restaurant has a line around the block and the
1:24 other one which is the same type of food has no line at all which one do we think people think
1:29 are better and of course a lot of that could be you know my mentality but the point here is what
1:36 we're looking for is to show people that you have good ice cream that's what the point of your
1:40 portfolio is right hey I've done this project before and here are the results I've had here
1:46 are clients that are happy and excited for the results that I've had. And what's important is
1:51 when we think about on Upwork, right, most proposals are never even opened. So the percentage
1:58 of potential clients who've opened your portfolio is quite low relative to the number of clients
2:04 that you've sent proposals to. And beyond that, the number who actually take the time to dive into
2:10 your profile and look at your portfolio items is very, very low.

4:10 consume easily, and then make the decision to write back to you, to respond to you, to hire you,
4:15 whatever that happens to be. You want to make it as easy, as frictionless as possible for the client
4:20 to decide to take the next step with you. Portfolio items help to show what you've done in the past,
4:26 what you're capable of doing. They don't need to be super long. In fact, it's better if they're not.
4:31 Okay. And you can probably tell those four portfolio items, I probably spent 15 minutes
4:35 doing all four of them. Just a couple of screen caps, a couple of sentences, bam, here, we've done
4:39 SEO in the past. Here's some results. That's it. Okay. So what if you're thinking, you know,

4:46 I'm under a non-disclosure agreement or I don't have very many clients yet,

6:21 project. It's still in progress. Well, you know what? Take a few screenshots, add that as a
6:26 portfolio item, talk about what you're doing, talk about what you've done for that particular project.

6:38 an accompanying YouTube video that you spent three weeks scripting out and editing and all that.

8:10 are looking at them and I know that they then want to talk with me about them, even though I threw
8:15 them up in five minutes. Now, one thing to be aware of, one thing to keep in mind, right? The worst
8:22 thing you can do is spend too long trying to figure this out. If you spend two weeks trying to come up
8:27 with a portfolio item, that's not where you should be. The point of having success on Upwork
8:31 is to do these things well enough, to be good enough, and then start sending proposals.
8:38 You're not spam proposals three to five a day. And the great thing about three to five a day
8:43 is that's enough to get some statistically significant data and maybe start to adjust
8:48 some of your portfolio items, your profile, your cover letter, whatever it happens to maybe to
8:53 start to get those responses. For now, we don't know necessarily what your prospective client wants
